The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg – Revisited
The other morning the story of the goose that laid the golden egg randomly popped into my head.
How strange, I thought. Where the heck did that come from?
And I “heard” “write about it”.
So here I am.
I’ve been mulling it over a bit, first reviewing the story which is basically this:
Once there was a farmer. One day he found a golden egg under his goose. How exciting! he thought, and rushed into the house to show his wife. They used the golden egg to finance some things. The next day, and for days after, the farmer found another golden egg, and they kept spending as fast as they could.
At one point the farmer got greedy, and he rashly decided to kill the goose to get all the eggs at once. Well, you know what happened then — dead goose, no eggs, and no more gold.
So. I’m going to spin the story a bit.
New version:
Once there was a farmer.
One day she found a golden egg under her goose.
How amazing!, she thought.
Where the heck did that come from? Is it real?
Thank you goose, she said, for your magic. I love you, she said.
She took the egg into the house, polished it up and admired it, feeling incredibly grateful, and took into town and used it to pay down some debts.
The next day, she found a second egg made of gold, under the same goose.
Holy cowzaroly, goose, she said. You are amazing! Thank you so much!
I don’t know what I’ve done to have you bringing golden eggs into my life, but whatever it is I am so grateful.
Thank you goose, for your magic, she said. I love you. Here’s a treat I brought you from the house — I hope you enjoy it!
And she took that egg, polished it up, admired it, and went to the store for groceries, animal feed, and a new computer that she’d been wanting that would allow her to expand her business.
The next day, you guessed it, there was another golden egg under the goose.
Oh goose, the farmer said. Thank you so much! You are just amazing. How can I help you? Is there anything I can do to support you?
Well, said the goose. I wonder if we could hatch some of these eggs, and maybe get some more golden egg layers. Although we might just get regular geese if we do that, of course.
The farmer looked at the golden egg in her hand. She thought about what she could do with the money the egg represented. She thought about her vision, her plan for her future, her goose, her gratitude, and the magic that was happening.
And she said, ok.
And took the golden egg inside and put it under the heat lamp.
Day after day, she nurtured and thanked the goose.
Most days she put the eggs under the heat lamp so that they could be nurtured too.
Once in a while she, with the goose’s permission, used one of the eggs.
In deep gratitude for her abundance and prosperity, and for her magical goose.
And now she has the goose, the eggs, and a whole bunch of new goslings.
They aren’t old enough to be laying yet, so our story ends here for now.
Gratitude, abundance, magic.
Divine timing, right timing, nurturing.
Vision, thinking long term, caring for what we have.
Being present to what’s showing up in all possible ways.
What golden egg producing goose could you be nurturing and thanking more?
What golden eggs are showing up in your life and in your business?
What can be converted to cash, and what could go under the heat lamp?
What story could you shift the energy of, and tell in a whole new way?
in peace and curiosity,
